Jelli Beta

Today we are pleased to announce the Beta release of Jelli!

Now there’s even more Jelli! In Beta, we’re introducing more Jelli stations. Each station features its own page and unique stream, and of course each playlist is 100% user-controlled. Now, if you’re not digging the metal hour that’s happening on Jelli Green, you can grab your crew and head over to the new Jelli Red or Jelli Orange to start your own rock block.

Once you’re tuned in to a station, you can chat with other listeners on that station, search and browse for songs that can play there, and vote to shape the playlist. The new Jelli stations aren’t format-specific, it’s all up to the listening community for each station to decide what plays.

Check out the Station Tuner to view info about each station and get a feel for what the community’s up to.

Click on a station in the “Choose Your Jelli” area to see what’s currently playing and the last 5 songs that played on that station.

You can even see how active a station is before you tune in - the more people actively controlling the playlist, the higher the reading on that station’s Radio Activity meter. So, you can find the most popular hangout, or tune in to a mellower scene.

The Tuner shows you all the info to help you decide on a station, but if you know right where you’re going, you can quickly change stations right from a station’s home page. Just click the “Change Station” shortcut button (near “History”) in the On Air area to jump to a station.

Jelli’s going international. With our Beta release, we’re introducing 3 stations, but the Jelli Tuner will be growing quickly. Today we’re also announcing two freshly inked deals, putting Jelli in the pipeline for distribution with thousands more stations worldwide.

Through a syndication deal with Triton, Jelli will be available to Triton’s more than 4,500 radio affiliations in the United States beginning in early 2010. Triton Radio Networks, through Dial-Global, will syndicate two daily Jelli programs (Top 40 Jelli and Rock Jelli), and Triton Digital will offer affiliates customized, 24/7 online Jelli experiences.

Jelli also struck a deal with Australian broadcaster, Austereo, which will launch a hits-oriented Hot Jelli show on stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. Starting next month, Hot 30 Jelli will have its own Jelli station, and will be broadcast daily on FM and digital radio, as well as streaming online 24 hours a day.

Cool new features. We’ve also added several new features from our roadmap, many of which were requested by our Alpha users. We have a lot more in the works, but here’s what’s new with the Beta release.

  • Looking for someone? With all the new places to hang out on Jelli, you might be wondering where your Jelli friends are gathering. You can go to a station and check out the chat area to see who’s there, but if you’re looking for someone in particular, just go to their profile. Now each Jelli user’s profile features a “Last seen on” indicator, which shows the station they were last tuned into on Jelli.

  • Extra credit. One of the coolest features on Jelli is the ability to rocket a track to the top of the list, to give a song the best possible shot to make it on the air. Now when a rocketed song hits the airwaves, in addition to announcing whose rocket it was, we’ll also display that person’s user name and profile pic in the On Air area for the duration of the song. If you’re just tuning in you can see whose rocket is currently playing - and the rocketeer will enjoy some extra credit for their airtime.
  • Rocket rewards. As part of Beta, we’re also introducing rewards for excellent rocketeering. If you rocket a track and the community loves it, you’re in for a treat! When your rocketed track gets to full ROCKS, you’ll automatically be rewarded another rocket.

  • Voting for rockets. We’ve also made a small update to rocket behavior - when a track is rocketed, we’ll clear all votes for that track except that of the rocketeer. So, if someone rockets up a track that you’ve already voted for, we’ll clear the votes so you have another chance to help boost it up on deck.
  • Altering History. The History area tells you what songs have played in the last 24 hours, and if they got yanked off the air. We’ve made an update for Beta to also display if a song rocked. If the community loved a track and the rockometer went to full ROCKS, you’ll now see the “ROCKED” label on that track in the Playlist History.

The Merch Booth is OPEN! You asked for it, and we’re happy to announce the opening of the Jelli store! Click the “Merch” link from the bottom of any Jelli page to start shopping. The store is fully stocked with t-shirts, stickers, hoodies, magnets, and all kinds of flair - all 100% endorsed by The Robot DJ. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions, so drop a note in the Feedback Forum if there are any additional products you’d like to see added to Jelli Merch!

Come join us at www.jelli.net to check out the Beta release of Jelli - and get your new Beta flair! This is an exciting milestone for us, and we thank all of you for your continued participation and support of 100% user-controlled radio. Of course, we’ve still got a rich roadmap ahead of us, with many new features planned…so stay tuned!

Costume the bot! One of the best parts of Halloween is dressing up, but T-Bone’s having some trouble deciding what to be. Got an idea? Enter T-Bone’s costume contest!

Grab T-Bone’s pic off the Jelli Facebook page, dress up the Robot DJ, then send us your entry via email, tweet T-Bone your link, or post your pic on Facebook (where you can also check out and comment on other people’s ideas).

T-Bone will reward his faves with cool Jelli prizes, and of course he’ll wear his top costume pick for Halloween. Entries are due by 10/28, and winners will be notified on 10/29 - just in time for the Halloween festivities to start on Jelli. Enter as many times as you like!

There’s plenty more Halloween trickery afoot, so stay tuned!
